Why Your Grade Graph Shows Sudden Drops or Spikes

Created by Alex Laird, Modified on Fri, 28 Nov at 2:42 PM by Alex Laird

Sudden changes in grades on the graph usually come from newly added or corrected grades on assignments.

Most Common Causes

  • A high-weight exam or project was graded
  • A missing assignment was graded as zero
  • You changed a category weight
  • An existing grade was edited

How to Investigate

  1. Click the grade point on the graph that reflects the spike or drop, which will open the corresponding assignment; check that the grade and category are correct
  2. Double-check the grades and categories of surrounding assignments (using the "Todos" view and sorting by Due Date can make this easier)
  3. In Classes, double check that the category weights haven't changed and are correct
