Setting Up and Managing Reminders

Reminders let you receive an alert before an assignment is due or an event takes place. You can add reminders to any assignment or event, and configure how they are sent.

Adding a Reminder

1. Open the Planner and tap on an assignment or event to open its details
2. In the details panel, tap the Add Reminder option
3. Enter a Message for the reminder
4. Select how you want to receive the reminder:
   • Email — sends a reminder to your registered email address
   • Push — delivers a push notification to any device (including browsers, when supported) where you have the Helium app installed and notifications enabled; the reminder also appears in the Notification Center after it is sent
5. Set the Remind before offset — choose a number and unit (Minutes, Hours, Days, or Weeks)
6. Tap Save

Setting a Default Reminder

To avoid re-configuring the same type and offset every time, set your defaults in Settings → Preferences:

• Default reminder — sets the default reminder type (Email or Push) pre-filled when creating a new reminder
• Remind before — sets the default offset (e.g., "1 Day") pre-filled when creating a new reminder

Notification Center

The Notification Center (bell icon in the navigation bar) collects Push reminders after they have been sent. From there you can:

• Tap a notification to open the linked assignment or event
• Dismiss individual notifications to remove them from the list

Notifications are removed automatically when you edit or delete their linked item.

Enabling Push Notifications on Your Device

For Push reminders to work, Helium must be on your device, and your device must have notifications enabled for the app (or browser, if using web). When you first use Push reminders, your device may prompt you to allow notifications. If you previously declined, you can re-enable them in your device's system settings.

Helium Classic

In Helium Classic, reminders work similarly:

• Popup — alerts in the browser
• Email — sent to your registered email address

There are no Push notifications in Helium Classic.

Helium Classic will remain available through at least Summer 2026.
