What is Included in a Helium Backup (and What Isn’t)

Overview

Helium backups contain nearly all of your account data, exported in JSON format.

What's Included

  • Class Groups — with classes, categories, schedules, assignments, and grades
  • Events
  • Notes — with their related associations, but excluding any embedded content
  • Reminders
  • External Calendars
  • Resource Groups — with resources and their class associations

What's Not Included

  • Attachments — uploaded files are not included
  • Private Feed URLs — these are regenerated per-account
  • User Preferences
  • Login and Account Information

Note: Backups store notes in a dedicated notes section. Older backups that used the legacy comments or details fields will be preserved and automatically converted to Notes when imported. Newer backups will not include these legacy fields, and thus if you import a new backup, thus newer backups will not import comments or details in to Helium Classic.

Helium Classic

In Helium Classic, the same data is included with one naming difference: Resources are called Materials, so your export file will show "Material Groups" instead of "Resource Groups."

Helium Classic will remain available through at least Summer 2026.
