We've completely rebuilt Helium from the ground up—sleek, modern, fast, and built to last. The new Helium includes a redesigned web app plus brand new native iOS and Android apps, all sharing a consistent experience.
Helium Classic will remain available through at least Summer 2026, giving you plenty of time to transition at your own pace. Your data syncs seamlessly between both versions, so you can use whichever works best for you.
What's New in Helium
The new Helium includes several features not available in Classic:
- Native Mobile Apps — Brand new iOS and Android apps with push notifications. Download from the App Store or Google Play.
- Revamped Grades Page— The widgets at the top of Grades have been completely redesigned to be more action-oriented:
- Overall Grade with trend indicator
- Progress vs. Pace comparing your work completed against time elapsed in the term
- At-Risk Classes highlighting any classes that need attention
- Pending Impact showing ungraded assignments that could most affect your grade
- Improved Grade Graph — The grade trend chart now has enhanced tooltips that let you see how an individual assignment's grade affected both the overall class and term grades at a glance. On mobile, tap and hold to view.
- Class' category grade breakdown is now easier to view, as a stacked bar chart.
- Dark Mode — Choose between light, dark, or system-synced themes in Settings. See Changing the App Theme for details.
- Sign in with Google or Apple — Create an account or sign in using your existing Google or Apple ID instead of a password. See Signing In with Google or Apple.
- Grade Calculator — Quickly calculate what grade you need on upcoming assignments to reach your target. See What Grade Do I Need?
- Actionable Links — Websites and emails that you add to Classes, Resources, and elsewhere now show as tappable buttons, making it easy to launch a site or compose an email directly from Helium.
- Smarter Filtering — The separate Classes filter has been combined with the Filters menu at the top of the Planner. The Complete/Incomplete filter is also improved, and a similar Graded/Ungraded filter was added.
- Tooltip Controls — You can now disable tooltips on the Planner if you prefer a cleaner view.
- Fresh Names — The Calendar is now called Planner, and Materials have been renamed to Resources.
- Simplified Registration — You only need an email address to create an account. Usernames are no longer required.
- Lightning Fast — Snappier performance and a stable, modern foundation across all platforms.
Still on the Way
A few familiar features are still being migrated to the new Helium. In the meantime, you can access them in Helium Classic:
- Notes — The ability to add notes to assignments, events, and materials is coming soon.
- Disable "Collapse Busy Days" — The option to expand days to show all items without collapsing is not yet available.
- Import/Export & Backup — Exporting your data and importing backups is not yet available in the new Helium. See Using Exports to Backup Data.
- Change Email Address — Updating your account email will be available in a future update.
New Features on the Horizon
Beyond finishing the migration, we're working on exciting new features that have never been part of Helium before. Stay tuned for announcements—more details coming soon!
Retired Features
Some features from Helium Classic are being retired and will not be available in the new Helium:
- SMS Reminders — Text message reminders are being replaced by push notifications in the native mobile apps and browsers, which offer more flexibility and don't require sharing your phone number.
- Popup Reminders — Browser popup reminders have also been replaced by push notifications.
- Usernames — Accounts now use email addresses only for sign-in.
- Phone Numbers — If you registered a phone number for SMS reminders, this information will be removed from Helium's systems when Classic is retired.
